Marriott Tianjin China Program Scholarship

 

The Marriott Tianjin China Program Scholarship was established in 2009 to benefit Florida International University students fully enrolled in their senior year of study in the joint TUC FIU Tianjin, China Center Program.  These Scholarships are intended to provide financial support to students focusing on lodging management in the School or Hospitality and Tourism Management.


Eligibility and Selection Criteria


• Undergraduate degree-seeking majors in the FIU School of Hospitality and Tourism Management with senior standing
• Minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
• Lodging industry experience is preferred, but not required
• All applicants must submit the following documents (digitally and three copies) as part of the application process:
     1. Completed and signed scholarship application form
     2. A 500-word essay, typed and double spaced, on why the applicant selected the hospitality industry as a career and where they want to be    five years after graduation from the program
     3. Recommendation letter from a current faculty member 
     4. Current resume,including the outside activities, internship and industry experience; the copies of certificates or awards should be attached.
     5. Employer certification letter of industry work experience with their employer’s business card,the materials should be transferred from the Career Development Center with the signature of the director
     6. Any cheating in the submitted materials and past or future violation to the school rules will result in the cancellation of the scholarship


Selection Procedure


These highly competitive Scholarships will be awarded annually to student(s) selected by the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management Scholarship Selection Committee – Tianjin Center.  The Selection Committee will be comprised of members of the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management’s administration and facultyas well as the Marriott representative(s).


Applications will be reviewed by the Committee each fall term and awards will be made for the fall and spring terms of the conferees senior year.  The Committee may make replacement awards at any time during the academic year, if any recipient does not enroll, fails to meet the criteria listed above, or is otherwise deemed ineligible to accept or receive the award. 


Amount of Awards


Awards in the amount of RMB 32,800 or the equivalent of one-year’s tuition will be made (one-half in the fall term and one-half in the spring term) from the balance of this gift amount remaining in the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management’s Scholarship Operating Fund.


Submission of Application


All application materials must be submitted to the TUC-FIU Academic Advising Center (A-311) on the TUC-FIU Campus by the published deadline.


Scholarship Recipients will be required to write a thank you letter to the Marriott Group.


All FIU regulations, policies and procedures apply to the management of the Scholarship Fund.
